July 9, 2026 — Private label in convenience is a short list: ice, water, a simple chip, sometimes a bun for the kitchen. It works when the banner can own the spec and the store can receive it. It fails when a grocery team ships a club pack, changes the sticker, and calls it a c-store program.
The four-foot set does not have a commissary behind it. If the item needs a back room the store does not have, it is not a convenience private label. It is a grocery item on the wrong truck.
Buyers should ask three things before the reset. Is it a single. Can the existing route deliver it. Does the ring beat the branded facing it would replace. A yes on the sticker and a no on the route is a no.
