Couche-Tard grew energy and still cut price to protect the stop

The 1.7 percent U.S. inside gain survived deliberate pricing, the company said. It did not come from taking rate.

Sept. 10, 2026 — The useful pricing sentence in Couche-Tard’s quarter is that U.S. same-store merchandise still rose 1.7 percent after “deliberate pricing decisions designed to support customer value.” The company was not taking rate and calling it a category win. It gave some price back and the energy and nicotine mix still carried the number.

That is a different instruction from a supplier deck that wants a higher ring because the brand invested in a flavor. If a major chain is defending the stop with price, a new SKU has to earn the facing at the ladder already on the door. A higher suggested retail that ignores that sentence will not get the set.

Canada’s same-store merchandise was flat. The U.S. is where the mix worked. A national price increase pitched as if every banner is expanding beverage margin is not what this quarter said.
