Murphy’s inside margin held at 20.1 percent. The box did not get a new set

Merchandise contribution rose 4 percent. The unit margin moved a tenth of a point.

Aug. 6, 2026 — Murphy USA’s merchandise contribution in the quarter ended June 30 rose 4 percent to $227.4 million. The unit margin was 20.1 percent, against 20.0 percent a year earlier. That is a stable inside business under a fuel quarter that did the earnings work.

A tenth of a point on unit margin is not a planogram story. It means the mix the store already sells — including the nicotine fixtures management has flagged for the second half — did not have to be reinvented for the quarter to look fine. Buyers who hear “earnings up” and ship a new shipper are answering the wrong line.

The line that would change a facing is a named category with a share move. Murphy did not give that split in the contribution sentence. Pouches and cigarettes, which the company has discussed as second-half drivers, are still two fixtures. A 20.1 percent blend does not pick a winner.
