Couche-Tard’s food program showed up as an expense, not as a SKU list
Normalized costs rose partly because the company is spending to speed foodservice.
Sept. 8, 2026 — Couche-Tard’s food story in the latest quarter is in the expense note, not in a list of new packs. The company said normalized operating-expense growth came from inflation, spending on strategic initiatives, and investment to accelerate foodservice and keep stores customer-ready, partly offset by expense control that kept the growth under the inflation in its network.
That is how a kitchen actually arrives in this channel. It shows up as labor, waste, and equipment before it shows up as a facing a snack buyer can count. A packaged launch that claims to be “foodservice-adjacent” because it sits near the roller grill is still a packaged launch.
The merchandise line that did move — energy and nicotine — does not need that expense. Buyers should not borrow the foodservice investment as proof the cooler reset. They are different checks.
