Regular $4.319 and diesel $6.285, week ended Sept. 14

NEW YORK — Sept. 21, 2026 — U.S. regular gasoline averaged $4.319 a gallon in the week ended Sept. 14, the Energy Information Administration said. On-highway diesel averaged $6.285. Regular was up 16.2 cents from $4.157 the prior week. Diesel was up 31.8 cents from $5.967.
Those two lines are the lot traffic a snack buyer lives with. The buyer does not post them on a pump. The trip that pays the cooler and the checkout still runs on them. A week that adds 16 cents to regular and 32 cents to diesel is a different dwell week from one in which both grades fell.
The last three prints
The same national table shows the climb. Regular was $4.071 in the week ended Aug. 31, $4.157 on Sept. 7, and $4.319 on Sept. 14. Diesel was $5.599, then $5.967, then $6.285. This desk filed the Aug. 31 week on Sept. 20, when both grades were down. The Sept. 14 week reversed that.
Diesel is the travel-center and fleet lot. The larger move is there. A suburban gasoline site and a truck stall are not the same shopper when diesel is the grade that jumped. Energy, water, and a larger snack pack live or die on which lot showed up.
